Hunting for Sports and Cinema in Switzerland

When travelling something always comes out as planned and something as...surprise, surprise. Lately I have been visiting some car museums. May be depend or on or thanks to other folks than me. But anyway, yes. So seen different kind of cars from different decades. A lot of. From different parts of the world.

And now it happened that I got a possibility to get to know the predecessor racing of Formula 1. And that happened in Bern's History Museum! Who had known that?

So I ran into Grand Prix Suisse 1934-54 in Bern Bremgarten. But now in the museum. It was an interesting and surprisingly large exhibition. You were drifted into the world of road racing... Up to that if you are interested in well known Swiss personalities or happenings check the upper floor of the museum. May be you run into the sports there too.

Or into music. Or into cinema. Or into...Football. Icehockey I catched in one bar, of course. Failed to get the tickets for the match this time...

Miracle of Bern: Do you remember the legendary 1954 World Championship game in Bern?
Anyway I learned in the museum a lot about Switzerland! Some Swiss-memories came into a daylight once again too. So the upper floor of the museum is to be recommended for those who are interested in the 20th century Switzerland.

For Soccer Fan's with a big S&F one more Tip...A Story of World soccer in FIFA World Football Museum Zürich worth visiting too!

But now we go from sports to culture. Sometimes they up to some other areas go hand in hand though...

A Story about Chaplin's World in Vevey frenchspeaking area of Switzerland with plenty of photos below. I liked the visit very much indeed!

Chaplin's Manoir

Finally I made it...Although I waited for the museum to be opened for some years...Thanks!

Local Craftbeers and tasty Berlinburgers

As having checked Craftbeers in couple of European countries lately I thought to make some tasting in couple of Berlin breweries. Not only interesting beers but also interesting breweries in other means...

The Brlo Brewery you can find, at least still, constructed in containers and situated beside the metrostation Gleisdreieck. Interesting indeed.

The Brewery Rollberg is the local beer tasting place of of Kreuzberg and the brewery is in the old Kindl-beer brewery. The building, the hall were they serve something small to taste, beer and other drinks is very imposing from outside and inside. The taste of traditional somehow.

In the era of the popularity of the burgers you may also in Kreuzberg like to visit the Burgermeister. One of their selling points is in the old toilet outside the metrostation "Schlesiches Tor". They say and we saw that there is a queu always. At least still there were...

In the very last night we went to the Stone brewery a little bit of or almost outside Berlin. Huge! They said is the secind biggest restaurant in Berlin. American craftbeer with heavy food. I ate soup from the beer glas...Happy beer feelings!

Cheers!

In Berlin you can go to East in many ways...

...Yes, and we began this time in seeing Berlin from below...Amazing.

The Society for the Exploration and Documentation of Subterranean Architecture (Berliner Underwelten e.V.) has organized guided tours of different kinds to the underground structures of the city. And we went under the former Berlin Wall, to one of the escape tunnels from East- to West-Berlin.

There are lots of memorials in Berlin as in Berlin as many things have happen here during the history. Among them many memorials from the time of West- And East-Berlin. Well, during the past 30 years I have visited them all....

I remember when I for the first time visited East-Berlin. It was the year 1984 and us making an Interrail, one of the 6 Interrails I have made during my life. Yes, we crossed the border at Friedrichsstrasse S-Bahn, the memorial place now called "Tränenpalast"or the "Palace of Tears".

And the year 1995 I was once again in "Tränenpalast" during my 1,5 years stay in Berlin. But this time it was not a border crossing, not any more but a concert of in east popular rock band "Silly" in "Tränenpalast". A very memorable concert for me!

And couple of days ago and now being the year 2016 I visited "Tränenpalast", of course and it now having an exhibition telling of border-crossings and destinies of border-crosses.

But you maybe begin your Berlin-visits with Checkpoint Charlie, with DDR-Museum and with the Museum of Everyday Life in East-Berlin. To get an overview, I mean...

By the way, the Berlin Wall Museum originates from the year 1962 when the Berlin Wall was built. I visited this museum already in the times as East- and West-Berlin. When they still existed...

Well, when I return to home I will look for you some photos from the past...

Architecture and Design: From Jugendstil to Bauhaus

In 3 years the Bauhaus has a centenary, so 100 years of Bauhaus!
You can check here what happens then. And well, Jugendstil-Art Nouveau is already older than that.

If you visit Germany there is plenty to see if you are interested in "Bauhaus".

You should visit Dessau and Weimar, of course. And up to that the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin. I myself only now visited it and will visit in incoming years once again. Weimar and Dessau were in my programme already 20 years ago.

If you think about Jugendstil or Art Nouveau it is interesting to compare those. How Jugendstil/Art Nouveau manifests in Germany vs. France...According to which one you like the most indicates also you character. Try it and you will notice.

You can check it in Berlin in the Bröhan-Museum.

Issues for the Bond-movie fans.

Issues from real life from gadgets to stories of animals as spies...Enigma machine of course too.

The museum in Berlin as Berlin being the centre for east-west espionage. In the history at least. From these shoe-cameras above into my mind came also  "Get Smart" TV agent serie from the 60's. Have you seen it? Other very good agent TV series from that time are for example "The Man from U.N.C.L.E" and "Avengers". Check them!
